Mahama is told by Hawa Koomson not to make promises she can’t keep.

Mavis Hawa Koomson, the minister of fisheries and agriculture development, has urged National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama to stop politicising the end of the canoe and artisanal fishing season.

The sector minister claims that if the strategy is politicised, the fishing community would not gain significantly from the exercise.

JDN recently promised that artisanal fishers would not be subject to the limited season if he wins the next elections on December 7, 2024.

After a stakeholder meeting in Accra, Hawa Koomsoon addressed the media and stated that it is not practical for the NDC flagbearer to exclude artisanal fishers from the exercise.

“I hear the previous president making rounds declaring that upon his return, he will eliminate the intending to do away with closed seasons. I inform them that it is legal. Thus, I didn’t even make it. The law was created by the NDC. And that’s what they saw in 2016.

I want to beg the former president to remember that he has held this position previously and is a past president. I am just sticking with what is there because it has been policy. He should use extreme caution while speaking in front of the public since you never guarantee anything you do.
