Groupe Nduom’s global president has alluded to political persecution after pleading with National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama to reinstate GN Bank’s licence in the event that he wins the December 7 elections.

In August of 2019, the Bank of Ghana cancelled GN Bank’s licence.

On Friday, July 19, at a meeting with the former President in Accra, Dr. Nduom voiced his concerns about the declining condition of the bank’s 300 locations nationwide.

In an effort to save jobs and ease the suffering of those impacted, Dr. Nduom begged Mr. Mahama to give the restoration of GN Bank first priority if he wins the next elections.

As part of the 2019 banking sector cleanup, Mr. Mahama criticised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for acting too quickly in rescinding the licences of a number of indigenous financial companies.

After an independent assessment of the overall banking sector cleanup effort, he pledged to reinstate the licences of these banks.

However, Dr. Nduom, the former president, stated that “strange things are happening” a few days after the conference.

He claimed that NPP propagandists were planning a large-scale plot to utilise Bank of Ghana data to refute his assertion that the government owed him a substantial sum of money.
