The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has called on the Inspector General of Police and the Chief of Defense Staff to remain steadfast and impartial in the face of any undue pressure from President Akufo-Addo.

Speaking at the NDC’s campaign launch in Tamale on Saturday, July 27, 2024, Asiedu Nketia advised the IGP to stand firm and do the right thing in the lead-up to the 2024 general elections, despite any external influences.

He emphasised the importance of the security forces’ independence and neutrality, particularly in the lead-up to the 2024 general elections.

“My message to the Chief of Defence Staff and the IGP is straightforward: on the day you were appointed to oversee our security agencies, you took an oath to defend the interests of Ghanaians. You did not make a vow to defend the interests of any regime that is now in power.
We understand that you are working too hard, but could you perhaps take a break from the strain and act morally for the next four months?

“If you fail, it will just be you and God on the day of accountability; the president who is currently urging you to come to your defence will not be there.

“Now is the moment for constructive disobedience. You cannot be disobeying incorrect instructions while claiming that there is an order from above or none at all. You took an oath to defend this nation.
