Police has rescued a 92years old man who was accused of being a wizard at Kalabule in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region sparking concerns about the low level of knowledge on conditions associated with old age. The 92years old John Quaye was found in bush along the Densu River at Kalabule a suburb of Ngleshie Amanfro in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
He looked weak and fragile and could not communicate constructively to the people who first found him. Some of the community members judging from how he looked and based on his statement that he was in the company of another person during the night as well as his strange behavior concluded that he was a wizard and had fallen from the sky.
While others treated him fairly and even fed him others mocked and Early lynched him but for the intervention of some community leaders who notified police about the development.
A team from by the Ngleshie Amanfro District Police Command led by Sergeant Noble Evans Essuman responded swiftly and rescued the old man.
His relatives who later arrived at the police station as part of their search efforts told Metro News that John is a retired cocoa farmer an even owned a house in the suburb and was only suffering from dementia as a result of old age. According to them, he went missing the previous evening and obviously passed the night in the bush.
While his nephew, Eric Allotey is thankful to the police and residents who showed empathy for his uncle, he also wants Ghanaians to desist from considering the aged as witches and want much education to be done concerning conditions such as dementia which are mostly associated with the aged.
