Following the heated encounter, Annoh-Dompreh formally petitioned the Speaker of Parliament, urging him to intervene by issuing what he described as “consequential orders” ahead of the establishment of the Privileges Committee.

The Privileges Committee, which is responsible for investigating matters that involve misconduct or breaches of parliamentary rules, is yet to be constituted.

The Minority Chief Whip expressed deep dissatisfaction over the incident and insisted that immediate action was necessary to address what he deemed an “unprovoked attack” against him in his official capacity as a lawmaker.

In response to the concerns raised by the Minority Chief Whip, Speaker Bagbin acknowledged the gravity of the situation and assured the House that he would meet with the Acting CEO of the Petroleum Commission before the formal establishment of the Privileges Committee.

This meeting, expected to take place behind closed doors, will likely serve as an opportunity for the Speaker to hear Ms. Hardcastle’s side of the story and assess the circumstances surrounding the incident.
