The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested three persons for impersonating police officers during the District Level Elections in Asawase.

The suspects are 37-year-old Zakari Yakubu, 24-year-old Godsway Fiakodzo, and 26-year-old Ibrahim Zack.

They were arrested at Sawaba New Site polling stations A and B dressed in black outfits with body jackets, pepper sprays, jack knives, and five pairs of handcuffs.

Police officers at the scene apprehended them and impounded their motorbikes after they suspected them of impersonating them.

Inspector Frank Osae, the investigator in charge of the case quickly secured a court appearance for the suspects.

They were charged with “falsely pretending to be public officers”.

The fake police officers have since been remanded into police custody for further investigation.

Meanwhile, the case has been adjourned to January 6, 2024.

The fake police officer was busted following an investigation by a police team that revealed that he was not a member of the Ghana Police Service.

Before his arrest, he had been holding himself as a police chief inspector stationed at the Form Police Unit Headquarters in Accra for six months.

Kofi Boakye had told investigators that he was on sick leave.
