The deadline for presidential candidates to turn in their candidacy papers has been extended, according to the Electoral Commission (EC).

By giving candidates a chance to resolve any issues with their nomination forms prior to them being included on the ballot papers, the commission claims that this action will prevent candidates from being disqualified.

This was disclosed during the National Peace Council’s stakeholder event by Samuel Tettey, the Deputy Commissioner of the European Commission responsible for operations.

“We are extending the nomination period so that we can address any issues that may arise with a particular candidate’s nomination forms before we place them on the ballot,” he said.

Mr. Tettey went on to stress that the EC was making sure the voting procedures were open and honest from start to finish.
