A Junior High School (JHS) student has reportedly died during the Wulensi Fire Festival in the Nunumba South District of the Northern Region.

The deceased, whose identity has not been disclosed, died instantly after a musket he attempted to fire exploded.

According to reports, the incident occurred when the student fired the musket into a gutter, causing it to explode and strike him in the head.

The Fire Festival, which marks the beginning of the Islamic calendar, was meant to be a celebratory event.

However, authorities had cautioned against the firing of guns and other dangerous equipment, urging moderation in the festivities.

Unfortunately, some individuals, particularly youth, failed to heed this warning, leading to the tragic loss of life.

The Assembly Member for Wulensi,  Zebilla, confirming the incident to Channel One News, expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased.
