On July 31, the defamation action involving Kumawood actor Kwadwo Nkansah, also referred to as Lil Win, and actress Martha Ankomah will be heard.
This comes after the July 25 Case Management Conference at the High Court in Accra, which was presided over by Justice Forson Agyapong Baah.
Since Lil Win did not have legal representation during the previous session and was not present, the judge has ordered that he be informed of the hearing and the court’s notes through the customary channels.
Lil Win is being sued by Martha Ankomah for disparaging her in a widely shared video.
Lil Win may be heard denigrating Ankomah’s importance in the film business in the video.
The complaint, which was submitted on February 14, 2024, alleges that Lil Win’s remarks have harmed both the brand GTP and her own reputation.
Ankomah claims that Lil Win unjustly accused her of disdaining Kumawood actors and declining to work with them because of what she believed to be subpar plots.
In her complaint, Ankomah is requesting a number of remedies, including:
Amounts awarded for defamation: GH¢5 million.
damages to make up for the reputational injury.
increased damages due to the words’ malevolent character.
an apology and removal of the disparaging remarks.
an order stopping Lil Win from uttering any more disparaging remarks.
legal fees.
The complaint is based on an event in which Ankomah stated in a radio broadcast on Accra FM that he was not interested in working with Kumawood performers because he didn’t like witchcraft stories. Lil Win furiously retorted, resulting in the remarks that Ankomah alleges are disparaging.
Ankomah emphasises in her statement of claim the effects of Lil Win’s remarks on her reputation, as well as her extensive and well-respected career in the film business and her ambassadorial positions.
She emphasises that, contrary to Lil Win’s claims, she has never made negative remarks about Kumawood or its tales.
