Concerns have been raised by locals going from Asamankese, Akwatia, and Boadua, Kade, New Abirem, and other Eastern Region towns over the state of a bridge that connects them.

They claim that the 85-year-old bridge needs to be replaced or repaired immediately since it has turned into a death trap.

Residents of the bridge urged the government to prioritise repairing the bridge for them, according to statements made to Adom News.

Given the bridge’s current state, commuters and drivers on the Boadua to Kade route agreed that rehabilitation is preferable than patchwork.

The locals bemoaned the need to replace the decades-old, dangerous bridge in order to preserve lives.
Denkyembour District Assembly Engineer Davor Wonder urged the locals to have patience in response to these worries.
He admitted that the district lacked the funding to construct a new bridge, despite having previously informed the Ghana Highways Authority of the bridge’s condition.
On the other hand, Mr Davor affirmed that the Assembly and the Ghana Highways Authority have started restoration work on the current building.
Henry Boakye Yiadom, the member of parliament for the Akwatia seat, has also visited the location and promised to have it rectified.
