The chief and residents of Akyem Ayirebi in the Akyemansa district of Eastern region have called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP); Dr. George Akuffo Dampare to as a matter of urgency beef up security ahead of December 7 polls else chieftaincy dispute might cause disaster in the community.
Addressing the press during a presser held at Akyem Ayirebi, the chief of the community; Obrempong Gyepre Asante III divulged that there hasn’t been peace in the Ayirebi town due to chieftaincy dispute for years now as two fashions, both claiming to be chief of the town, of which if security isn’t intensified in the community might bring disaster ahead of December 7 polls.
He explained that he and his people have for years kept calm as the matter is before court and patiently waiting for court’s verdict but it’s provoking to recently seen the other fashion going round in the town announcing himself to be the chief of Akyem Ayirebi.
He has therefore called on the Akyemansa district chief executive; Hon. Paul Asamoah Gyimah, the MP for Ofoase-Ayirebi constituency; Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah and IGP to urgently ensure that calm is restored in the community before December 7.
Meanwhile some of the concerned town folks also expressed worry, fear and panic in the current situation in Akyem Ayirebi and therefore pleaded with the security service to beef up security in the town before something horrible might happen due to the chieftaincy dispute between the two fashions of chiefs in the community.
