Former US President Donald Trump continues to promote racially inflammatory allegations that Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris isn’t truly Black by sharing a photo of her wearing Indian dress along with her birth certificate.
Trump fuelled the issue a day after accusing Harris of having just recently claimed her Black background when he shared a picture of Harris with her mother and other maternal relatives dressed in traditional Indian garb.
“Kamala, I appreciate the lovely photo you sent me a long time ago. Trump posted a message on Truth Social. “We are so grateful for your kindness, friendship, and love of your Indian heritage,”
The statement was made at a time when Trump appeared to be unaffected by the controversy he started during a heated 35-minute conversation with reporters at the National Association of Black Journalists.
While Harris was speaking at a rally in Pennsylvania, the Trump campaign published a headline that portrayed him as the “first Indian-American senator” to be elected from California.
Trump’s vice presidential running mate, J.D. Vance, attacked Harris as a “chameleon” and complimented Trump for having the guts to answer straight to difficult issues.
The far-right Republican Laura Loomer wrote a series of articles that Trump subsequently published, claiming that “Kamala Harris’ birth certificate proves[s] that she is lying about being Black” and that “CNN did a whole interview about how Kamala is Indian.” The statement “Not Black!” appears at the end of the post.
Additionally, Trump shared a piece by Loomer that included a supposed birth certificate that belonged to Kamala Harris. According to Loomer, Harris’s birth certificate does not indicate that he “is Black or African.”
But according to the purported birth certificate, Harris is also of Jamaican lineage, even though the majority of Jamaicans are of African ancestry. Additionally, Loomer asserts that Harris is “not Black and never has been,” therefore “Trump is correct” to criticise her. Harris, according to Loomer, is “the descendent of slave owners.”
