The public has been reassured by the Electoral Commission Chairperson, Jean Mensa, that an inquiry is still on to find out how Richard Ahiagbah, the communications director for the ruling New Patriotic Party, was able to cast a ballot in the 2020 election despite not having his name on the voter registration list.
Richard Ahiagbah, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) director of communications, verified reports that he cast a ballot in the general elections of 2020 despite not having his name on the register.

This comes after Mr. Ahiagbah sought to register at a registration site in Ketu South, Volta Region, and was charged by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of committing a felony of double registration.

He claims that when he went to the polls to cast his ballot, the EC representatives told him that his name was missing from the register.

In spite of this, he was still able to cast a ballot since an EC official had noted his identity number and other pertinent information at the bottom of the register.

Speaking to Parliament prior to the 2024 election, Mrs. Mensa said that the events are quite concerning and that awareness should be raised.

“He may vote in 2020 even if his name was not on the register. We are investigating this, and we can guarantee we are investigating, and we guarantee that we will notify you of our results as they become available.

She said that in the approaching general elections, situations of this nature shouldn’t happen at any voting place.

“We will give you a little update on how that happened before the elections,” she promised.
